Recently, Apple made a change to their Developer API’s that requires us to disable barcode scanning for iPhone 3GS’s that are not running iOS 4. Starting with Key Ring version 2.2, iPhone 3GS users must be running iOS 4 to be able to scan barcodes. iPhone 2G, 3G and iPod Touch users are unaffected.

Note: you can still use Key Ring even if you are running iOS 3. This change only affects the ability to scan barcodes.

If you have an iPhone 3GS, we strongly recommend upgrading to the latest iOS as it includes many new features, speed improvements, and will re-enable barcode scanning in Key Ring. To update your phone to iOS4, simply plug it into iTunes and you should be prompted to update. If you are not automatically prompted, select your phone from the left sidebar, and click the ‘Check for Updates’ button on the main screen.

We are excited about the many new features and enhancements we’ll be adding to Key Ring in the near future. Stay tuned!
